What a blessed morning at the OffGrid Cabin, the rain is a splendid sound of nature. A great day to rest, write and read. Perhaps start organizing the shelves and bins, and unpack a few containers. Maybe set up the loft shelves. The Pressed Coffee is a wonderful treat this morning. Yesterday’s effort of splitting and stacking firewood are covered and staying dry Let it Rain! Let t Rain! Let it Rain! The sound immersion is mesmerizing,
Where to start, It has been 10 full weeks since this life changing transition started, wow! And,…..things are good, different for sure, but very good actually. The OffGrid Cabin is coming along. I have a comfortable bed to sleep in, my apartment furniture is a cozy fit, a great wood stove to keep us warm, the pets, Bert the Dog and Olive the Cat have settled in nicely, a suitable cook grill, a compost toilet, and the material is here to get the hot water shower set up, and the covered deck built over the next couple weeks. The UrbaneFarm Store at The Depot is growing and coming along. All is Well,……….I have nowhere to be, and nothing to do, in this moment, but relax, and Be, and Be, and Be.
“Most men, even in this comparatively free country, through mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the factitious cares and superfluously coarse labors of life that its finer fruits cannot be plucked by them.”
–Henry David Thoreau; naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher.
That sums up what this transition is about really,………..To Live Life as a Human Being, not a Human Doing. As I have much time now to think and analyze I have fallen prey in segments of my life to Therous message. I no longer want to do that.
Scott Stillman poetically says in Nature’s Silent Message;
“We are all born with playfulness—and play we will, until we’re taught that life is serious. That there are very important things to be done, and that we must focus not on the present but on the future. “What do you want to do with your life?” we are asked. “No, not now,” they insist, “in the future?” So begins the shift. Slowly we stop celebrating the glorious present and begin focusing on the future. And the reason for all of this? To be happy. Not now, silly. In the future. “Work hard now,” they reason, “and you’ll be happy later.” Happiness is stolen from us, and placed in an imaginary future that we can never reach. We become lost in illusion, or rather disillusion: that happiness resides in the future. A practical joke we’ve played on ourselves.
Spending time in nature is reminding me of the celebration of life. That once food and shelter are secured, celebration, beauty, and love are all we need. Love is everywhere, beaming from the trees, the sunlight, the clouds, the mist. We must only grab ahold of it and run wildly, out into the world with playful glee, celebrating the glory and splendor of life. No guru. No method. No teacher. Just come to the mountains and the truth will find you. But if your mind is too busy you will never hear it. If you’re always trying to get somewhere you will never get it. Because here and now is where it all lies.”
So, for me, on this day, in this moment, I will Enjoy the Coffee, Enjoy the Rain, and Be, and Be and Be,………..It Feels Good.
